How to Properly Bleach Knots?

The Complete Guide to Properly Bleach Knots on a Lace Wig

The knots on a lace wig are typically dark and noticeable against the scalp, which can make the wig appear less natural. If you want your wig to look like it’s growing from your scalp, bleaching the knots is one of the best things you can do. But how do you bleach the knots on a wig? Here, we present to you the step-by-step process to properly bleach the knots so that you can do it like a pro!

What you’ll need:

Lace bond adhesive spray

Bleaching powder

40V developer

Mixing bowl

Applicator brush

Disposable glove

Water

Aluminum foil

Hair comb

Purple shampoo

Step 1: Spray Hairline to Prevent Over Bleaching

Before beginning the bleaching process, spray the hairline area with a light mist of spray or water. This helps to protect the hair and scalp from excess bleach.

Step 2: Prepare the Hair

Gently comb through the hair along the hairline to ensure the lace is flat and the roots are exposed. This makes it easier to apply the bleach precisely to the knots without saturating the rest of the hair.

Step 3: Mix the Bleach

In a mixing bowl, combine bleach powder with 40-volume developer. The consistency should be similar to toothpaste, thick enough to adhere to the lace without dripping excessively.

Step 4: Apply the Bleach

Using a small brush or applicator, begin applying the bleach mixture to the lace where the knots are located. Take care to apply a thin, even layer without saturating the lace too heavily. Avoid getting bleach on the hair strands as much as possible.

Step 5: Cover and Process

Once the bleach is applied, cover the treated areas with aluminum foil. This helps to trap heat and speed up the lightning process. Leave the bleach on for 15-20 minutes.

Step 6: Rinse and Neutralize

After the processing time is up, carefully remove the foil and rinse the bleach out of the lace using lukewarm water. Follow up with a purple shampoo to neutralize any brassiness in the hair. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.

Step 7: Air Dry

Allow the lace closure to air dry naturally. While it may be tempting to use a blow dryer to speed up the process, air drying is gentler on the delicate lace and hair fibers, reducing the risk of damage.

By following these steps, you can achieve professionally bleached knots that enhance the natural appearance of your lace wig. With proper care and attention to detail, bleaching knots can significantly elevate the overall look and realism of your lace wig, making it virtually indistinguishable from natural hair.
